Visual Heresy: Imaging God the Father in the history of art

  1. Thanks for posting this... which at first seems odd in slamming Byzantine icons, but gets better (some uncanonical need to be slammed), but the two memorable bits were 1) nature and the American Hudson River School's naturalism as protestant "icons" depicting God the Father by His creation, and 2) "We're all bound to get it wrong somehow, until somehow we're all bound together." Otherwise... he's more glib than noteworthy... a sort of "pop" academic who glosses rather than deepens understanding. There's always something that keeps one from dismissing them entirely... but never as a much as the "buzz".
